YACON SYRUP SUPPLIER

Yacon (Smallanthus sonchifolius) is a native crop from the Peruvian Andes. This sugar free syrup is used in the food industry as one of the best prebiotic supplement, high sweetener capacity and for its high FOS content.

Yacon syrup, a natural sweetener derived from the root of the yacon plant, has emerged as a rising star in the world of best sugar substitute and health-conscious cuisine. Native to the Andes Mountains in South America, the yacon plant has been cultivated for its tuberous roots, which are the source of this unique and flavorful syrup.

One of the standout features of yacon syrup is its low glycemic index (GI). This characteristic has sparked considerable interest among individuals seeking healthiest sugar substitues or natural sweeteners instead of traditional sugar. The low GI means that yacon syrup is metabolized more slowly in the body, leading to a gradual increase in blood sugar levels compared to the rapid spikes associated with high-GI sweeteners. This makes yacon syrup an appealing option for people with diabetes or those aiming to manage their blood sugar levels more effectively.

Yacon syrup is renowned for its prebiotic properties. It contains a type of carbohydrate known as fructooligosaccharides (FOS), which serves as a prebiotic fiber. Best prebiotics provide nourishment for beneficial gut bacteria, supporting a healthy gut microbiome. A balanced and diverse gut microbiome is associated with numerous health benefits, including improved digestion, enhanced immune function, and even potential mood regulation. Yacon syrup’s prebiotic content has positioned it as an ingredient that not only sweetens but also contributes to overall well-being.

Yacon syrup boasts a rich and pleasant flavor profile. Its taste is often described as a blend of molasses and caramel, with hints of honey-like sweetness. This distinctive flavor makes yacon syrup a versatile ingredient in the kitchen. It can be used as a drizzle over pancakes, yogurt, or oatmeal, enhancing the taste of different and creative breakfast dishes. Yacon syrup can also be incorporated into baking recipes, smoothies, and sauces, offering a unique twist to traditional flavors.

Because it works like a sugar substitute, Yacon Syrup have a culinary flexibility that becomes a great ally in the kitchen. It can be used in a one-to-one ratio in recipes that call for traditional sweeteners like sugar, honey, agave and also instead of healthier alternatives like monk fruit. Its lower calorie content compared to sugar makes it an attractive option for those looking to reduce their overall calorie intake while still satisfying their sweet tooth.

It’s worth noting that while yacon syrup offers a range of potential health benefits, moderation is key. As with any traditional or natural sweetener, excessive consumption should be avoided. Individuals with certain dietary restrictions or medical conditions like diabetes should consult with a healthcare professional before making significant changes to their sweetener choices.

ORIGIN OF YACON

Pre-Hispanic cultures domesticated the yacón (Smallanthus Sonchifolius) in the Andean region, a plant that potentially has interesting attributes for human health and that, in the future, may represent an important source of economic income for the rural population of the region. Peru.

A few years ago this root was not given much importance because its nutritional value was considered to be very low, so the investigations were left aside. For these reasons, there is currently very little information on the cultivation, technologies and processing of yacon. It is a root with a very pleasant and sweet flavor to the palate, which grows in the temperate inter-Andean valleys. This root has a high content of Inulin and Fructooligosaccharides1 (FOS), which cannot be assimilated by the human body because it lacks the enzymes necessary for its metabolism, thus providing a lower level of calories compared to sucrose, being an excellent option for hypocaloric diets and for diabetics.

The Smallanthus Sonchifolius is a 100% Andean plant, its original habitat is the highlands of the Andes, between 1,800 and 2,800 meters above sea level, in temperate mountainous climates. The yacón is one of the 21 species that belong to the genus Smallanthus. It was domesticated, probably in the humid regions of Peru and Bolivia, from about 1200 BC.

Yacon leaves are an excellent hypoglycemic and antioxidant par excellence. This leaf lowers the concentration of glucose in the blood. Today numerous scientific studies prove its effectiveness, which achieves its effect without causing any alteration in the body.
